On April 15th Chicago Illinois State Police received a call of domestic battery from a woman inside a vehicle on I-57. The woman continued updating authorities on her location before she eventually got out of the vehicle in the 6500 block of South Champlain Avenue. When officers arrived to the scene on South Champlain Avenue, they found 24-year-old Jalen Carpenter, the alleged suspect in the domestic battery. Officers tried to speak with Carpenter, but a struggle later ensued. That’s when Carpenter pulled out a gun from his waistband and fired it, resulting in officers firing their weapons and hitting Carpenter, according to investigators. ISP said the officers rendered aid to Carpenter before paramedics arrived and took him to a local hospital where he died. A gun was also recovered at the scene.
