Insecurity on the Rise Across the Country: A Russian Tourist Dragged by Motorcycle Thieves in the Heart of Palermo, Neighbors Intervened to Stop Them. A new episode of urban violence reflects the growing insecurity in various parts of the country. This time, the victim was a Russian tourist riding her bicycle in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires when two motorcycle thieves attacked her in broad daylight, attempting to steal her cell phone. The woman fell to the ground and was dragged several meters. The incident, captured on video, shows the brutality of the attack and the victim’s unexpected reaction, managing to grab one of the assailants. This resistance allowed several neighbors to quickly intervene and subdue the criminal until the police arrived. The attempted robbery occurred at the intersection of Córdoba Avenue and Fitz Roy Street. Officers from the 14B Precinct arrested a 26-year-old man at the scene, while his accomplice fled on the motorcycle. However, thanks to the tracking by the Urban Monitoring Center, he was located at a residence in Villa Crespo, where he was arrested. During the raid, police seized the motorcycle used in the attack, as well as cell phones, helmets, and other items related to the case. Both detainees were placed at the disposal of Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 57. This incident adds to a long list of security incidents that occur daily in different parts of the country, fueling public concern and highlighting a problem that is spreading unchecked.
