Sindi Moreno, 28 year old undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was arrested by ICE with a final order of removal. Sindi was on her way to drop her daughter at school when she was approached by an ICE officer. Her family says the officer was out of uniform and didn’t present himself. However, ICE Houston says the officer did establish who he was with. The agency is putting out a warning to targeted individuals to not resist arrest. Per ICE Houston spokesperson: “The safety of an ICE officer has once again been unnecessarily endangered by an illegal alien who is accused of resisting the lawful commands of a federal law enforcement officer. ICE officers put their lives on the line everyday as they work to enforce the laws of the United States and keep our communities safe. They are human being too with families and other loved ones. Actions such as these can create an atmosphere of danger for our officers and contribute to the needless escalation of encounters with law enforcement…confrontations that could land them in prison. By working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to prosecute this person for her alleged criminal offenses, we are sending a message to all aliens thinking of resisting arrest or attacking our officers, that the time for warnings is over. If you lay a hand on our officers or fail to comply with their lawful commands, you will be criminally prosecuted to the fullest extent allowable under the law.” The federal agency provided additional details: During the encounter, an ICE officer approached Mrs. Moreno, clearly identified himself, explained that she was being taken into custody for immigration violations, and offered to work with her to arrange for a guardian to take her minor child. Existing video of the encounter on social media clearly shows Moreno refusing to comply to his lawful orders, resisting arrest, and attempting to flee from the officer. The ICE officer was eventually able to take Moreno into custody, but only after she allegedly assaulted him. As a result of her alleged actions, Mrs. Moreno has been referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.
