The Fort Myers Police Department announced that a suspect in connection with a homicide investigation at a Chevron gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Highland Avenue is in custody.

The suspect was found on Mango Street and was detained by officers.

One victim, a woman, is confirmed dead.

FMPD said rolbert joachin 40, was arrested in connection with the homicide. According to police, he was transported to the Lee County Jail. He is facing charges of homicide and damaging property.

Several employees at the gas station tell us the victim was a clerk at the gas station. The news left gas station regulars in shock.

Surveillance video from the store captured the fatal attack. In the video, you can see the suspect smashing a car windshield. Employees at the store tell us the vehicle belonged to the victim. The surveillance video then shows the clerk coming outside. The suspect then approaches the victim, hitting her in the head with the hammer.

Police tracked down Joachin on Mango and Raleigh streets, near Dunbar Park. People who live off those streets told Gulf Coast News they were relieved the suspect has been caught.
