The Metro Nashville Police Department said the detectives were in the 200 block of Dellway Villa Drive when the fight broke out. They reported seeing a victim with a cut to the side of his head, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. Arrest documents state detectives saw an armed man, later identified as Larry Cheatham, drive away in a white Ford Explorer. Detectives pulled the SUV over near Dickerson Pike and Hart Lane and took Cheatham into custody. During a conversation with detectives, Cheatham reportedly admitted to owning the item in question but said it was not a gun. He described it as a homemade device that “did not fire, despite detective’s observations,” the documents state. The victim also spoke with detectives and described being “pistol whipped” and “shot at” by Cheatham, according to the arrest documents. Cheatham, 48, was booked on felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a handgun, and evading arrest by motor vehicle. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license. His bond is set at $32,000
