Milwaukee Police Gets Into A Shootout With Double Shooting Suspect

Milwaukee, Wisconsin — On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers were dispatched to an alleged shooting on the 4300 block of W. Capitol Drive. Upon arrival, uniformed officers encountered an individual who was inside the gas station that was wanted for a double shooting. The suspect retreated into the back of the gas station as officers approached and gave the suspect several commands to show his hands. The suspect disregarded the commands, brandished a firearm and fired shots towards the officers and individuals inside the store. At this time, an officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. Officers retreated to cover and continued to give the suspect commands to drop the gun and show his hands. The suspect then again brandished a firearm toward officers, at which time an officer discharged his weapon. Officers continued to give the suspect commands but the suspect did not comply. The suspect ran out of the store and fired numerous shots at officers, at which time several officers returned fire subsequently striking the suspect. Additional force was used to take the resistive suspect into custody. There were no other reported injuries from the gunfire. No shooting victims were located. The suspect, 22-year-old Jayuntae Gregory was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. Gregory’s rifle was recovered at the scene. It was determined Gregory was wanted for a double shooting that occurred on July 16, 2024 on the 3900 block of N. 24th Street. Criminal charges were issued by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The officers were placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shootings.
