A 26-year-old man, identified as Elisio Melendez, has been charged with attempted second-degree m*rder after allegedly trying to push a stranger in front of an oncoming light rail train at Seattle’s Northgate station. Prosecutors say the attack happened on March 19 and was not random timing—the suspect allegedly waited until the train was pulling into the station before shoving the victim from behind. Surveillance footage shows the victim nearly falling onto the tracks but managing to keep his balance and avoid being hit. According to investigators, Melendez attempted to push the victim a second time before fleeing the scene. Authorities later tracked him using surveillance cameras and arrested him at a nearby mental health facility. He is currently being held on $750,000 bail, and officials say the motive remains unclear. Court records also show a history of violent incidents and mental health issues, including past cases where he was found not competent to stand trial. Prosecutors say they still intend to move forward with the case as the investigation continues.
