STORY: Maguindanao del Sur Mayor Akmad Ampatuan survived an ambush in Barangay Poblacion this morning, January 25, 2026. According to the mayor’s executive assistant, Anwar Kuit Emblawa, the mayor is safe. Ampatuan was reportedly onboard his bulletproof black sports utility vehicle when the attack occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the said barangay. However, his two escorts were wounded and immediately rushed to the Bangsamoro Regional and Medical Center in Datu Hoffer. The suspects were riding a white mini-van when they carried out the ambush; police also recovered high-powered firearms from the vehicle. Meanwhile, this is the third time the mayor has survived an ambush attempt.
