A Toddler Was Almost Hit By A Car After Escaping A Daycare In Cordova
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A toddler was almost hit by a car after escaping a daycare in the Cordova area, according to an eyewitness and surveillance footage of the incident.
WREG spoke with the owner of the Gentlemen and Ladies Academy on Bonnie Lane. He told us he has no knowledge of a child finding their way out of the daycare onto the busy street.
However, the surveillance video shows a different story.
“I can’t imagine having to call a parent to say your child got out and was almost struck by a car,” said a witness.
A toddler can be seen on video running out of the daycare’s side gate and wandering around the shopping center’s parking lot. A teacher comes out shortly after but turns around.
It’s when the toddler runs into the street that a driver in a gray truck is forced to slam on the brakes.
Somebody gets out of their car and runs to get the child. There’s the driver who was about to hit the child. This stranger picks the child up,” said the witness.
Memphis Police were called to the scene, but all they can tell us is that a report was completed.
The eyewitness we spoke to is also a childcare business owner.
“Being in the business, I feel like it can happen to the best of us. So we have to stay vigilant,” they said.
