NEW: Baltimore officer fires three shots after driver strikes and drags him over an improperly parked car On August 22 near Lexington Market, Officer Samuel Thomas, a 20-year veteran, was dealing with an unregistered car with expired tags. He let the driver, 29-year-old Tyrik L. Braxton of Columbia, Maryland, get back in to grab his belongings. Braxton started the car and tried to leave. Police say he accelerated, struck Thomas, and forced him onto the hood. Braxton stopped, reversed, then hit the gas again while the officer hung onto the windshield wipers. Thomas then fired three times. Braxton was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
