On February 9th, 2026, doorbell camera footage was released showing the January 26 officer-involved shooting where Phoenix police responded to a 911 call reporting an active shooter and home invasion at a residence, where a man was firing shots at family members inside the home. Police say the caller was the homeowner and was seeking immediate help as the situation unfolded. When officers arrived, they encountered a chaotic scene near the doorway. According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers discharged a single round near the entrance before entering the home. Inside, officers found that the reported shooter had already been disarmed and was being physically restrained by another man. Police said that man was the homeowner, Christian Diaz Rendon, who family members say had called police for help after the shooting began. Rendon was struck by the officers’ round and later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed he was not the suspect officers were originally responding to. Inside the residence, officers located two men with gunshot wounds and another injured person. The suspect, Edgar Garcia, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with injuries police said were not caused by gunfire. A separate family member who was shot in the leg by Garcia was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Phoenix police said the officer-involved shooting is under investigation, with body-worn camera footage and forensic evidence being reviewed as part of the standard post-incident process. Authorities have not released additional details on the precise sequence of moments leading up to the single shot fired by officers.
